15
Q

How do you select two separate modes?

A
  • Beacon mode can be overlayed onto WX, MAP or SP by selecting one of the 3, then Beacon.
    OR
  • The operator can select PREC mode once Map (DBS or MGM is selected)

However the Nav will only be able to select one mode if the pilot control panel is in charge

Q

Describe in basic terms the windshear mode & what scan pattern?

A

coherent pulse doppelar designed to detect the presence of low level microburst windshear in the T/O & landing environments. Uses a two bar scan pattern

24
Q

Describe the WS mode two bar scan pattern

A

The lower bar is a function of altitude & and scans just above the terrain to measure low level horizontal winds
The upper scan bar looks up approx 5deg.
WS mode then combines data from the two bars to make an estimation of vertical windshear.

- BCN: changes angular width of beacon return out to max 10deg

39
Q

What does OUT OF CAL mean?

A

When gain is altered in WX or WS mode away from the optimum calculated figure.
Means that the iso-echo contour is not calibrated to certain rainfall rates
