What is the primary task of a driver? (2)
- Safety of the train

- The correct operation and safety of the train
- Not permitting any unauthorised person to drive or travel in the leading cab

To not leave the train unattended.

The driver via a PA announcement when safe to do so.
When is a Train Malfunction Message (TMM) used?
When the driver has identified a defect on the train.
Where are Fault Warning Notices (FWN) and stickers used?
FWN are used when a defect is found that impacts a train from safely operating.
Where should Fault Warning Notices (FWN) and Fault Warning Stickers be placed?
- FWN are to be placed in the two end cabs
- Fault Warning Stickers are to be placed on/underneath the speedometer in the cabs
Who do you submit an incident report to?
The depot manager via the correspondence box.
How can a CAN notice be provided?
- dictated (and repeated back)
- from the station staff and Controlling Signallers
Station staff must hand deliver the CAN to the driver
Controlling Signaller must maintain the relevant signals at stock with blocking facilities.
Are CAN Warning notices an authority to pass any fixed signal at STOP?
No
What do we advise passengers if there is a disruption or delay? (3)
- Reason for the delay if known
- Possible duration of the delay
- Alternative arrangements (if applicable)
How often should an announcement be made if there is a disruption or delay and you have not moved for 2 minutes?
Every 5 minutes there after.
When do you report late running?
- When you are running more than 3 minutes late to the schedule
What type of communication systems are fitted to Siemens, X-Traps & HCMT?
cab to cab
What type of communication system is fitted to a Comeng?
An electrical bell system.
What does ONE ring mean in the electric bell system?
Call Attention
What do TWO rings mean in the electric bell system?
Proceed
What do THREE rings mean in the electric bell system?
Set back slowly (reverse)
What do FOUR rings mean in the electric bell system?
Call Competent Employee to front of the train
What do a SERIES OF RUNGS mean in the electric bell system?
