What is a rate?

A

A rate is a ratio comparing two quantities with different units, showing how much of one occurs per unit of the other

What is a unit rate?

A

A unit rate specifies the amount of one quantity per exactly one unit of another

example: 50km per 1 hour

How is a rate written

A

usually as a per b, using / or per

Example: 50km/hr or 60 minutes per hour

How do you find a unit rate from a normal rate?

A

Divide both terms so the second is 1

Example: 150/3hr -> 150 ÷ 3 = 50km/1hr

Heres a trick, just divide the denominator (AKA the last number) by the numerator (AKA the (usually bigger) first number)
