close and thorough evaluation of the claims in the text in terms of relevance, validity, and logic
CRITICAL READING
aims to induce the reader’s motivation to read and to activate their schema or background knowledge
PRE - READING STAGE
reader looks over a material and focuses on the information he/she finds relevant
PREVIEWING
aims to locate specific information or main ideas in a very short amount
RAPID READING
understanding of ideas and facts that are directly stated in the printed material
LITERAL READING
process of deducing facts and ideas not directly expressed in the text. also known as reading between the lines
INFERENTIAL READING
provides source of entertainment

- it came from an old french word textus which means scriptures an old form of writing
TEXT
provides a descriptive and comprehensive discussion on the topic
To INFORM
tries to convince that the proposed claim or solution is better than any other proposal
To PERSUADE
a type of literary conversation which focuses on the expression of feelings, ideas, imagination
