What is a reflex arc?
The pathway an impulse follows during a reflex action.
Why are reflex actions important?
They protect the body by allowing quick responses without needing to think first.
What is the first step in a reflex arc?
The stimulus is detected by receptors and converted into an impulse.
What is the second step in a reflex arc?
The impulse travels along a sensory neuron through the dorsal root to the spinal cord.
What is the third step in a reflex arc?
The interneuron in the spinal cord receives the impulse.
What is the fourth step in a reflex arc?
The motor neuron carries the impulse away from the spinal cord through the ventral root.
What is the fifth step in a reflex arc?
The impulse reaches the effector causing it to respond.
What happens after the reflex action is complete?
The impulse reaches the brain, and pain is felt.
