What protects the brain?
The bony cranium
The meninges (three membranes)
Cerebrospinal fluid (acts as a cushion)
Why is the brain important?
It controls all functions of the human body.
What is the cerebrum?
Largest part of the brain
Controls voluntary actions (e.g. walking, speaking)
Interprets sensory information
Responsible for thinking, memory, and reasoning
What connects the two halves of the cerebrum?
The corpus callosum.
What is the cerebellum?
Located behind and below the cerebrum
Maintains balance and posture
Co-ordinates muscle movements
What is the medulla oblongata?
Connects brain to spinal cord
Controls breathing, heartbeat, and swallowing
Manages reflexes like blinking and sneezing
What is the hypothalamus?
Found above the pituitary gland
Controls hunger, thirst, body temperature, emotions, and sleep
What is the function of the pituitary gland?
It secretes hormones that regulate other glands (part of the endocrine system).
