Q

What is the Epididymis Composed of? What do they attach to?

A
  • Head: attaches to the superior pole of the testis, directly receives sperm from the seminiferous tubules
  • Body: attached to the posterior border of the testis
  • Tail: attached to the inferior pole of the testis

Q

What is the Function of the Epididymis? What is it composed of?

A

Function
- Stores sperm and promotes its maturation
Composed of
- Long muscular tubes that allow for sperm maturation, as the sperm travels through it

Q

Describe the Structure of the Ductus (vas) Deferens?

A
  • Muscular tube about 45cm in length
  • Starts from the tail of epididymis, ascends through the spermatic cord, and ends at the posterior surface of the bladder
  • Lies medial to the seminal vesicle and dilates distally to form the ampulla of vas deferens
  • Distal to the ampulla, the vas deferens narrows again and joins the duct of the seminal vesicle to form the ejaculatory duct

16
Q

What is the Structure and Function of the Seminal Vesicles?

A

Structure
- Two coiled tubular glands on either side of the midline lateral to the ampulla of the ductus deferens
Function
- Produces between 60-70% of the volume of the semen

17
Q

How does the Ejaculatory Duct form?

A
  • The joining of vas deferens and the seminal vesicle duct
18
Q

Where is the ejaculatory duct located? where does it open into?

A

Located
- Contained within the prostate
Opens into
- The Prostatic Urethra

19
Q

Where is the Prostate located?

A
  • Immediately below the bladder
20
Q

What is the function of the PRostate?

A
  • Produces roughly 30-40% of the volume of the semen, which nourish and protect the semen
21
Q

What happens to the prostate in 60% of the individuals above 60?

A
  • Forms benign tumors
22
Q

What happens when someone has a prostate turn into a benign tumor?

A
  • Enlarged prostate will push against the inferior surface of the bladder
  • Consequently, urine will not be emptied completely
  • Increases the likelihood of urinary infections
23
Q

What does the Bulbourethral Glands do?

A
  • Produces a fluid just before ejaculation into the spongy urethra to adjust the pH and disinfect the urinary tract
24
Q

What is the Penis composed of?

A
  • 3 cylindrical erectile tissues: comprised of numerous tiny channels that are inflamed by blood
25
Q

What is the root of the penis? what are the landmarks?

A
Root
- where the erectile tissues connect to the pelvic floor
Landmarks
- Bulb of the penis on the center
- Crus of the penis on either sides
26
Q

What is the Body of the Penis? What are the landmarks?

A

Body
- The Crus of the Penis continues into the body as the corpus cavernosum
- The Bulb of the penis continues into the body as the corpus spongiosum
Landmarks
- Forms the Glans of the penis distally
- Covered by a double layer of skin known as the prepuce
