Q
  1. What is biomedical research?
  2. Why animal models? (3)
  3. LVTs role (2)
A
  1. Broad area of science that looks for ways to prevent & treat diseases that cause illness and death in people and animals.
    - Involves studying biological processes & diseases using various models, including animals.
  2. Essential for understanding complex bio systems
    - Bridge the gap between vitro (cell culture) studies and human clinical trials
    - Crucial for drug development, vax testing, & understanding disease pathogenesis
  3. LVT role
    - Integral scientific partners!
    - Ensure animal welfare, data integrity, & regulatory compliance

Q

LVT Responsibilities (3)

A
  1. Daily animal husbandry
    - Providing appropriate housing, nutrition, and environmental enrichment.
    - Monitoring animal health and behavior for subtle changes.
  2. Preventative health care
    - Meds, vax, para control
    - Assisting with routine physicals & wellness testing.
  3. Recognizing & alleviating pain/distress
    - Identify these signs
    - Implement analgesic & supportive care protocols
    - Provide environmental enrichment, QOL assessment/care.
