researcher bias Flashcards

(5 cards)

1
Q

Q

confirmation bias

A

tendency to search for/interpret information in a way that confirms one’s prior belief (bend results to prove your hypothesis)
—> lowers validity - results aren’t

lowers reliability - not replicable
as results have been tampered

Q

interpretation bias

A

an information processing bias where a researcher may interpret the data in a way the participant didn’t intend (slang/attitude)
—> when research is older than the
participant or doesn’t
understand language they might
misinterpret - lowers validity
lowers reliability - if replicated
+ they knew what the slang
meant
