Respiration Flashcards
(7 cards)
What type of reaction is cellular respiration? How often does this occur in living cells?
Exothermic reactions happen continuously in living cells
Aerobic respiration summarised:
Glucose + Oxygen —> C02 + Water
Energy transfered to the environment
What does the energy transferred supply?
All the energy needed for living processes
Effects of exercise on respiration and why
Increases:
breathing rate as more oxygen is needed,
heart rate oxygen needs to be pumped faster around the body,
blood movement as more oxygen needs to be delivered to the muscles
Anaerobic respiration
Respiration without any oxygen
Comparison between aerobic and anaerobic respiration
Aerobic respiration includes oxygen however anaerobic respiration does not. Aerobic respiration produces carbon dioxide and water from using glucose and oxygen however anaerobic respiration only uses glucose and produces lactic acid that builds up in the muscles
Comparison of anaerobic respiration animals, bacteria and yeast
Animals such as humans and bacteria cells anaerobic restoration produces lactic acid. In yeast cells it produces ethanol and carbon dioxide
