resuscitation Flashcards
(21 cards)
what is the ABCDE approach used for
assessment/ approach to deterioration / critically ill patients
what does ABCDE stand ffoe
airway
breathing
circulation
disability
exposure
if in airway assessment patient aint breathing right, what format of oxygen is given
high conc oxygen via mask with oxygen reservoir. (15L/min)
what oxygen sat is ideal
94-98%
(in respiratory failure aim for 88-92%)
what is normal respiratory rate
12-20 breaths per min
what equipment measures oxygen concentration
pulse oximiter
how do you measure patient circulation
by measuring patients CAPILLARY REFILL TIME
how is capillary refill time measured
cutaneous pressure for 5 sec on finger tip at heart level with enough pressure to cause blanching
- time how long it takes for skin to return to normal colour
what is a normal CRT vale
less then 2 secs
a low diastolic bp can indicate what
arterial vasodilation (as in anaphylaxis or sepsis) (widened artery so lower bp)
what can a narrow pulse pressure (difference b/w systolic and diastolic) mean (normal is 35-45mmHg)
arterial vasoconstriction (can be in cadiogenic shock or hypovolaemia)
Hypovolemia occurs when you don’t have enough fluid (blood) volume circulating in your body
what is given if patient found hypotensive
crystalloid solution (500ml)
what does ACS stand for
acute coronary syndrome
what do u use to measure blood glucose
rapid finger prick
prick with lancet
measure blood on test strip with glucometer
to examine patient properly, full exposure of body may be needed (respect patients dignity and minimise heat loss)
know process of adult and child bls
what does PEF stand for (used in asthma)
peak expiration flow
(tool that you blow into)
- to assess severity of exacerbation of asthma
what does ECG/EKG stand for
electrocardiography
where are the 12 ECG leads placed
V1 = 4th intercostal right sterum
V2 = 4th intercostal left sternum
V3 = midway v2 and v4
V4 = 5th intercostal space, mid clavicular line
V5 = anterior axillary same level as v4
V6 = mid-axillary line same level v4
RA = anywhere b/w shoulder and elbow
LA = same as RA on left
RL = anywhere b/w right hip and right ankle
LL = same as RL but on left
what does SBARD stand for and why’s it used
Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation (or Request), decision
- is a structured communication framework that can help teams share information about the condition of a patient or team member or about another issue your team needs to address.
