Assessment and Osteopathic principles
I’m going to assess above and below with the osteopathic view of the body is a unit and structure and function is interconnected.
I have assessed the hip previously in two sessions and there is no restriction or pain in any vectors. Therefor today I will only assess AROM and the strength in functional movements like squats and lunges.
BPS factors impacting recovery:
Decreased pain tolerance, ↓ rehab adherence due to psychological exam stress
Educate the patient about load management and the risks of early return.
Use goal setting (sport-related goals) to maintain engagement while pacing rehab.
Encourage stress management techniques (breathing, sleep hygiene) during exam periods.
Inhibition
Rule of artery is supreme – stimulating blood flow to avascularised ligaments.
Mechanotransduction
Promotes the transition from disorganised Type III collagen to organised Type I collagen, which has greater tensile strength.
Encourages muscle fibre regeneration and proper alignment of fibres under stress.
Facilitates angiogenesis (formation of new blood vessels), improving blood flow and nutrient delivery.
Voluntary contraction / neuromuscular connection
Enhances muscle spindle sensitivity, aiding joint stability without relying on passive structures.
