prefix

refers to an affix that is placed at the end of a root word e.g ‘ment’ after ‘state’
morpheme
the smallest unit of meaning e.g the word ‘helped’ is made up of two morphemes ‘help’ and ‘ed’; a verb/noun and a suffix
collocation
refers to 2 or more words that typically go together as a set phrase e.g tea and biscuits, bread and butter, pay attention
hypernym
a topic word or an umbrella term for many things e.g tree, car
hyponym
the words under a topic word or umbrella term e.g hyponyms for the hypernym red would be vermilion, crimson etc
neologism
a newly-coined/invented word e.g meme
rhotic
where the r sound is rolled in words like farmer, car, like in West Country pronunciations
glottal t
where the t sound isn’t pronounced in words like water, bottle, butter, typical to the Cockney accent
h-dropping
dropping the h sound in words like haven’t and hard, typical to the Cockney accent
