2
Q

What is hydraulic action

A

River banks have cracks and water gets in them. Air inside the cracks compress and it expands. Erosion happens and rocks break off.

What is attrition

A

Two rocks smash together with force. The rocks break down into smaller and smoother rocks.

Q

What is traction

A

Big stones roll along the river because of the flow of the river but are to heavy to float

Q

How does an oxbow lake form

A
  1. the river starts to deposit and erode making it curve
  2. on the outside channels they get closer to each other with eroding and the other side of the river is depositing making the river move and two bends come together
  3. as the two bends come together, the neck of the meander is begining to disconnectfrom the main river
  4. as it starts to disconnect the main river chooses the easier root to go through leaving behind the oxbow lake
