We cannot escape our values and shouldn’t try to.

What does the value-laden perspective focus on ?
Sociology is deeply influenced by values/beliefs/perspectives of the researcher.
No research is truly neutral
Values can affect:
Topic choice
Data collection
Interpretation
What did Gouldner argue?
Criticised objectivity arguing that all sociology is politically and ideologically driven.
It is neither possible/Desirable to keep values out of research.
Application and Analysis
What are implications of value-laden research.
(Positive)
Helps to uncover systematic inequalities (Racism - sexism - class exploitation)
Influence policy-making based on ethical/political stances.
Allow for research that challenges dominant ideologies.
(Marxist/Feminist approach challenge these)

Can lead to biased research driven by ideological agendas.
Risks undermining sociologies credibility as objective discipline.
Findings may be dismissed as too politically motivated rather than academically rigorous.
(If opinions are involved to much can reduce validity of it).
