How do we check if a gastrotube is in the correct location in a cow?
- Smells line rotten egg
- Gurgling sound/crushing paper sound
- One person blows into tube, other person should hear it in the rumen with stethoscope
When gastrotubing, what are we aiming to tube?
The rumen
When gastrotubing, what must be avoided?
The trachea
When removing a gastrotube, what must you first do?
Kink the hose twice
What would be one sign the gastrotube is in the trachea instead of the rumen?
Fog in the tube
What are preventative magnets for in cattle?
To keep swallowed nails, wire etc away from the heart or diaphram to be removed in one clump post mortem
