Rxtended Responses Flashcards
(13 cards)
What are some external factors that can effect an organism s ability to maintain its metabolic rate
Salinity, pH and temperature
What response did come from is used to maintain optimal metabolic rate
Behaviour responses which allow them to tolerate variation
How do you regulators maintain their internal environment
Metabolism, regulation requires energy to achieve homeostasis
Describe the differences between conformers and regulators and environment
Conformer’s internal environment is dependent on external, they have a narrow niche and low metabolic cost. Regulators maintain the internal environment regardless of the external environment therefore having a white ecological niche and high metabolic cost
How to mammals maintain normal temperature
These electrical impulses to the nerves to the effectors to bring about corrective responses and to maintain a normal temperature. The correct mechanism is not as negative feedback. The hypothalamus monitors temperature
What are examples of corrective responses
For when the organism is too hot sweating, vasodilation, decreased metabolism. For when they are too cold shivering Vasoconstriction, hair erector muscles contract creating insulation, increased metabolic rate.
Why is regulation of temperature necessary
To allow for optimal and enzyme activity and high diffusion rate to maintain metabolism
What are the pros and cons of intensive farming
Less ethical due to poorer welfare however it generates higher profit as costs are low
Why is free range farming positive and negative
More ethical however requires more land and is more labour-intensive
Examples of stereotype
Repetitive behaviour such as Pacing
Example of misdirected behaviour
what a natural habit is projected without benefit such as chewing on metal bars repetitively
Examples of failure in sexual or parental behaviour
Not reproducing or abandoning young
Examples of altered levels of activity
Acting extremely, hysteria is intensive and apathy is Lethargic
