What is scabies?
Scabies is a contagious skin infestation caused by the mite Sarcoptes scabiei. It burrows into the skin, causing intense itching.
What are the symptoms of scabies?
Intense itching, especially at night.
Red, inflamed skin, papules, and burrows.
Common areas: wrists, elbows, axillae, genital area, and webspaces between fingers.
How do we diagnose scabies?
Clinical diagnosis based on symptoms and history.
How do we treat scabies?
Apply once weekly for 2 doses, apply 5% preparation over whole body including face, neck, scalp and ears then wash off after 8–12 hours. If hands are washed with soap within 8 hours of application, they should be treated again with cream.
