Q

What is schema ?

A

is a structured set of motor programmes stored in the brain, which can be adapted to produce different movements. It allows performers to transfer and apply skills to new situations using past experiences.

Q

What is initial conditions ?

A
  • Identifiying everything about the current environment that surrounds you.

Q

What is response specifications ?

A
  • Identifying what you need to do, and what action you need to take based on the surrounding environment.
  • ” what do I need to do ? “

Q

What is sensory consequences ?

A
  • Information is taken in around the feel of the movement.
  • e.g. when a longer pass is needed to move the ball up the court in basketball the arm action would be stronger.

Q

What is response outcome ?

A
  • when schema and motor programme are updated by getting knowlage of the result through feedback of the outcome.

Q

How could a coach use schema when training perfomers ?

A

🏃‍♂️ Vary practice – change speed, distance, or environment to build adaptable skills.

🎯 Set different targets – helps players adjust techniques for different outcomes.

🔄 Repeat key skills – builds stronger motor programmes through experience.

🤔 Ask players to solve problems – encourages them to adapt and think during play.

🧠 Link new skills to past ones – helps players transfer what they already know.

👀 Use feedback – tells players what worked so they can update their schema.
