Types of practice Flashcards
(5 cards)
What are the four types of practice ?
1) Massed practice
2) Distributed practice
3) Fixed practice
4) Variable practice
What is massed practice ?
is when a skill is practiced continuously with little or no rest between repetitions. It is best for simple, closed skills and helps develop muscle memory through repetition.
What is distributed practice ?
Distributed practice is when practice is broken up with rest or breaks between sessions. It’s useful for complex or fatiguing skills, and helps with learning and retention by allowing time to recover and reflect.
What is fixed practice ?
Fixed practice is when a skill is repeated in the same environment or situation each time. It’s best for closed skills where conditions don’t change (e.g., a free throw in basketball).
What is variable practice ?
Variable practice involves changing the environment or conditions while practicing a skill. It’s best for open skills, helping players adapt to different situations (e.g., passing in football under pressure).
