the truth
I at least, I for my part
nothing
so, then, really, therefore
οὖν
what?
τί;
you (pl.)
So down goes the captain, and down go both Dikaiopolis and the sailors.
For the noise [is] from below.
And below, it is Hegestratos that the captain and the sailors see.
Hegestratos is making the noise below.
CAPTAIN: Hey you! What are you doing?
ΚΥΒ. οὗτος, τί ποιεῖς;
But what are YOU doing, Hegestratos?
(suddenly realizing it is Hegestratos) ἀλλὰ τὶ ποιεῖς σύ, ὦ Ἡγέστρατε;
What [is] the noise?
τίς ὁ ψόφος;
HEG. I am not doing anything, captain, nor do I hear any noise.
Don’t worry.
DIK. Come over here and look, captain.
ΔΙΚ.
For Hegestratos has something in his right hand.
CAPTAIN What do you have in your right hand, Hegestratos?
ΚΥΒ. τί ἔχεις ἐν τῇ δεξιᾷ, ὦ Ἡγέστρατε;
HEG. I have nothing, friend, not me.
ΗΓ. (desperately trying to cover up) οὐδὲν ἔχω ἔγωγε, ὦ φίλε.
DIK. O Zeus! For Hegestratos is not telling the truth.
ΔΙΚ. ὦ Ζεῦ.
For Hegestratos has an ax in his right hand.
The fellow is sinking the ship.
CAPTAIN What are you saying, Dikaiopolis?
ΚΥΒ. (shocked) τί λέγεις, ὦ Δικαιόπολι;
Hegestratos is sinking the ship?
δύει τὸ πλοῖον ὁ Ἡγέστρατος;
