What is a microbe
A microbe, also known as a microorganism, is a tiny living organism that is too small to be seen with the naked eye. They are found everywhere, in air, soil, water, and within other living organisms.
What are 4 microbe groups
bacteria, fungi, viruses, algae, archaea, and protozoa
Various microbe diseases
common cold (virus), strep throat (bacteria), athlete’s foot (fungus), and malaria (parasite)
Describe how some bacteria are good or bad
Some bacteria are beneficial, like those in our gut that aid digestion and boost immunity, while others are harmful, causing infections like strep throat or urinary tract infections. Many bacteria are neutral, neither helpful nor harmful, but can become a problem in specific situations
How can bacteria reproduce
Bacteria primarily reproduce through a simple process called binary fission, an asexual method where one cell splits into two genetically identical daughter cells. This process involves copying the cell’s DNA and then dividing it into two halves, followed by cell division
What is Ebola
Ebola is caused by a virus caught from wild animals. It spreads from person to person when you touch infected body fluids, such as semen, saliva, blood, poo, pee and vomit.
Aseptic technique
Aseptic technique is a collection of procedures designed to prevent contamination during invasive medical procedures or when working with microorganisms in a laboratory setting. It aims to minimize the risk of introducing pathogens to a patient’s body or to a culture, thus preventing infection or contamination
Various techniques are Aseptic technique * Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) * Respiratory hygiene and cough etiquette * Safe use of sharps * Environmental cleaning * Reprocessing of medical equipment * Appropriate handling of linen and waste management.
