Q

Sensory Coding

A

4 steps
- reception: receptors receive stimuli
• hair cells - auditory
• cutaneous - somatosensory
- transduction: convert stimuli to neural signal
• after postsynaptic neuron converts signal
- coding: temporal patterns of neural activity
• differentiate by spatial vs temporal
- sensation (feeling), perception (integrating), attention (focusing)
• higher order processing

steps occur from low to higher order information processing
