Series and parallel circuits Flashcards
(12 cards)
What is a circuit?
A path that allows electric current to flow,
What are the 2 main types of circuits?
Series and parallel.
If there is a single loop in a series circuit, how many paths are there?
Only one path for current to flow.
How is the voltage kept in a series circuit?
Shared between components.
How is the current in a series circuit?
The same at all points in the circuit.
What is the total resistance in a series circuit?
Total R = R₁ + R₂ + R₃…
What happens if one breaks in a series circuit?
The whole circuit stops working.
If there are multiple loops in a parallel circuits, how many paths are there for current?
More than one path for current.
How is the voltage for parallel circuits?
Same across each branch.
How is the current in a parallel circuits?
Splits between branches.
How is the resistance in a parallel circuit?
Gets smaller as you add more branches.
What happens if one breaks in a parallel circuit?
The rest still work.
