Voltage, current and resistance Flashcards
(17 cards)
What is current?
The flow of electric charge (electrons) around a circuit.
What is current measured in?
Amps (A)
What is current measured with?
An ammeter (in series circuit)
What is voltage?
The push that moves the current around the circuit.
What is voltage measured in?
Volts (V)
What is voltage measured with?
A voltmeter (put in parallel circuit)
What is resistance?
How much a component resists the flow of current.
What is resistance measured in?
Ohms (Ω)
What is the formula for voltage?
V= I X R (voltage = current x resistance)
If there is more voltage, what happens to the current?
More voltage = more current (if resistance stays the same)
If there is more resistance, what happens to the current?
More resistance = less current (if voltage stays the same)
If there is less resistance, what happens to current?
Less resistance = more current
