Shock Flashcards
(5 cards)
3 subtypes of distributive shock?
Neurogenic
Septic
Anaphylaxis
Neurogenic distributive shock pathophysiology
3 mechanisms
-direct injury to centre for circulatory regulation
-altered Afferent to circulatory centre due to stress, pain or dysregulated vagal reflexes
-interruption of ascending connection from regulatory centres in spinal cord
Examples of hypoxic shock
Anaemia
Severe pulmonary disease
Carbon monoxide toxicity
Methemoglobinemia
Examples of metabolic shock
-hypoglycaemia
-cyanide toxicity
-mitochondrial dysfunction
-cytopathic hypoxia of sepsis
Functions of endothelial surface layer
Anticoagulant
Barrier
Repels positive charged ions
Detects shear stress
Creates protein poor fluid space
