Shoulder joints Flashcards
(5 cards)
What are the joints in the shoulder
acromio-clavicular joint
Sterno-clavicluar joint
Glenohumeral joint
Scapulo-thoracic joint
acromio-clavicular joint explain
-synovial plane joint
-3 degrees freedom
-stability provided by coracoclavicular ligment, acromioclavicular ligament and the deltoid and trapezius as they cross the joint
-upward and downward rotation
anterior+ posterior tilting
internal + external rotation
Sterno-clavicular joint
-synovial saddle joint
- 3 degrees freedom
-very stable joint, more likely clavicle to fracture before sterno-clavicular joint
-elevation-depression
protraction+ retraction
circumduction
Glenohumeral joint
- ball and socket joint
- 3 degrees freedom
-active stability - rotator cuff muscles
-elevation + depression
flexion + extension
internal + external rotation
scapulo-thoracic joint
- not true synovial joint
- two joint system
- 6 degrees freedom
- elevation + depression
upward + downward rotation
protraction + retraction
“dysfunction” motion seen typically in 3 presentations
1. anteriorly tilted (prominent at inferior angle)
2. Internally rotated (winging)
3. downwardly rotated
