Shoulder ligaments Flashcards
(5 cards)
ligaments in the shoulder
- glenohumeral ligament
- coracoacromial ligament
- coracoclavicular ligament
- transverse humeral ligament
Glenohumeral ligament
- connects humerus to glenoid
-main source of stability
-helps hold in place + keep from dislocating
-superior, middle and inferior
Coraco-acromial ligament
-links coracoid to acromion
-this ligament can thicken and cause impingement
coraco-clavicular ligament
-connects clavicle to the coracoid process of scapula (trapezoid ligament and conoid ligament)
-Keeps scapula attached to clavicle - keeps shoulder “square”
- Fall on point of shoulder - rupture ligament - dislocate ACJ
Transverse humeral ligament
-capsular ligament of GHJ
-Fibers extend between greater + lesser tubercle of humerus forming a roof over bicipital groove
- tendon long head of biceps travels through canal deep to the transverse humeral ligament , prevents displacement of tendon of long head biceps brachii
