Explain the theory of the ‘Locus of Control’

A
  • Refers to individual differences in people’s beliefs that make them more or less likely to conform or obey
  • Internal LOC - Believe they are in control of what happens (more likely to disobey - need less social approval from others)
  • External LOC - Believe they are not in control - happens because of chance or luck (more likely to obey - need more social approval from others)
