simple and facilitated diffusion Flashcards
what is diffusion
the movement of molecuels going from a high concentration to a low concentration
are molecuels polar/ no. is it passive or not? what does it go through
how does simple diffusion occur across a cell membrane
non polar molecuels (very small)
move to a high to low conc grad across a phospholipid bialayer
its a passive process becuase it doesnt reqire energy from ATP
are molecuels polar/ no. is it passive or not? what does it go through
how does facillitated diffusion across a cell membrane
polar substences (bigger molecuels)
move doen cocn grad through carrier protiens and channel proteins
its a psssive process so doesnt require energy from atp
what substences do they facilitate?
how do channel protiens facilitate diffusion
they facilitate water soluble molecuels
they have hydrostatic pores that fill with water and are gated so they can colse and open to let water into the cell.
what substences do they facilitate? thin about the tertiary structure
how do carrier proteins facilitate diffusion
they facilitate larger proteins
the complementary substence attaches to the binding site and then the protien changes shape to the substence can be transported
