As the economy developed there was more need for admin jobs, teachers and lawyers

Prussian civil service grew from 40k in 1850 to 250k in 1907
The number of doctors more than doubled in the period

They had better pay, housing and health than workers so they made organised pressure groups for gov improvement like representation and insurance

Around 1912 white collar workers were more powerful than ever and the middle class were willing to work with them in the Reichstag to challenge the junker dominated system

Their standards of living dropped rapidly during the war to the same level as ordinary workers

Their union faltered during Weimar since the middle class were scared of communist uprisings

1921-3 Hit them extra hard as well as the Great Depression at the end of the 1920s
There was unease about the Weimar govs ability to help them

White collar workers returning from war had less employment available due to women getting more jobs
White collar- Weimar: resentment
They doubled during the period and blue collar workers increased by 20%, increasing unemployment and hatred between societal layers

They didn’t get the same level of state support as blue collar workers and 90k had zero unemployment support

At the end of the Weimar period 60% of graduates were unemployed which increased antagonism against the government and hope the nazis would fix it

They promised to reduce female employment which appealed to them

White collar workers needed 6 weeks notice to be sacked but blue collar workers only needed 1

There were benefits to joining the party and in 1933 they were 65% over represented compared to blue collar workers who were 30% under represented

They had better pensions and insurance schemes than the workers and were addressed with greater status as ‘sie‘ rather than ‘du‘
