A square root of a number is a number which, multiplied by itself, equals the first number.
Ex: 5 is the square root of 25
How do you calculate the square root when the square root is a decimal number?
Calculate the nearest square root of the first two digits.Put the answer on top and do the first two digits - the square.
00 98 Put down the next two digits.
Multiply 6 by 2=12
Now you know that 12*x*=the biggest number you can get under 98. You must calculate * (* is a digit).
Put 0 in your answer line.
Put down the next two digits (if there aren't any, put down 00).
Do it again!
120*x*=closest to 9800
Put 8 on the answer line, 9800-9664=146, put down 00, and so on until you get 0 when you do your number minus the product.
