Suggests intimate and tranquil setting which is contrasting the chaos he is normally surrounded by.
“Finally alone”
Implies he savours this time.
“Spools of suffering set out”
Sibilant alliteration draws attention to the horrific images and the fact he’s trying to restore order to the chaotic images.
“Ordered rows”
Suggests he is being respectful with the victims final moments. Also hinting at gravestones.
“Light is red and softly glows”
Suggests the lit candles in church which honour people. “Red” suggests connotations of blood.

a priest preparing to intone a Mass”
He compares his actions in preparing to develop photos to a priest preparing for a Mass which shows respect.

War zones. The one word sentences highlights how importance they are to remember. Each place is in his memory.
“All flesh is grass”
From New Testament which suggests that life is fragile and all people must die. This reminds us that war victim’s deaths were sudden.
