“He has a job to do”
Reminds him of his responsibility of informing others of the true horrors of war.
“Solutions slop in trays”
Reference to chemicals used to develop photos. The sibilant alliteration draws attention to this.
“Beneath his hands, which did not tremble then though seem to now”
Unemotional during his assignment but in private, he is upset of what he has witnessed.
“Rural England”
Establishes where he is. Far different from a war zone.
“Home againto ordinary pain which simple weather can dispel”
Contrast between home and war. Shows how our problems are sorted with good weather. We don’t know true suffering.
“To fields which don’t explode beneath the feet”
Our children don’t worry about land mines whilst playing so why should others. Shows injustice.
“Nightmare heat”
Reference to photo of Vietnamese children which photos helped end the war as people were shocked.
