“That feverish”
Connotations of flustered/agitated mood.
“Air tasted of electricity”
Metaphor implies there’s new energy and excitement fuelling the kids.
“Tangible alarm”
School bell now creates a state of stress and excitement.
“You asked her how you were born”
Not part of the teachers innocence.
“Smiled and turned away”
Her help and security is no longer there. Line break mimics te new division between teacher and pupil.
“Ran through the gates”
The fear has translated into the urge to experience life, leaving Mrs T’s classroom behind.
“Split open into a thunderstorm”
Final release of pent up feelings. Implies there’s danger out there and she is racing into a world that will do little to protect her.
