Anatomy Exam 3 > Superficial and Deep forearm muscles (POSTERIOR) > Flashcards

Flashcards in Superficial and Deep forearm muscles (POSTERIOR) Deck (24):
1

Triceps Brachii

Location: Shown inserting upon the olecranon process of the ulna
Function: act to extend the forearm opposing the actions of the biceps brachii, brachialis, and brachioradialis muscles

2

Anconeus Muscle

Known as the fourth head of the tricpets inserts beside the triceps brachii
Function: act to extend the forearm opposing the actions of the biceps brachii, brachialis, and brachioradialis muscles

3

5 Superficial muscles involved in extension

Location: all arise from the lateral epicondyle of the humerus
Extensor Carpi radialis longus, extensor carpi radialis brevis, extensor digitorum communis, extensor digiti minimi, extensor carpi ulnaris

4

Extensor Carpi Muscles

All act to extend the wrist

5

Extensor Carpir Radialis Longus

Location: Inserts at the base of the second metacarpal bones
Function: extend the wrist

6

Extensor Carpi Radialis Brevis

Location: At the base of the third meta carpal
Function: extend the wrist

7

Extensor Carpi Ulnaris

Location: at the base of the fifth meta carpal
Function: extend the wrist

8

Extensor Digitorum Communis

Location: Has four tendons
Function: act to extend the index, long, ring and little fingers

9

Extensor Digiti Minimi

Tendon sent to the little finger

10

5 deep muscles

Act to extend, abduct or supinate.
Abductor Pollicis Longus, extensor pollicis brevis, extensor polliciis longus, extensor indicis proprius and the supinator

11

Pollicis

Muscles act upon the thumb

12

Indicis

The one muscle that reaches the index finger

13

Supinator Muscles

Location: attaches to the radius
Function: acts to rotate thepalm forward, back to the anatomical position

14

Extensor Pollicis Brevis

Location: inserts on the proximal phalanx
Function: acting to extend the metacarpophalangeal joint

15

Extensor Pollicis Longus

Location: Inserts into the distal phalanx of the thumb
Function: acting to extend the interphalangeal joints

16

Abductor Pollicis longus

Location: Attaches to the baseof the first metacarpal bone
Function: To move the thumb laterally (abduction)

17

Anatomical Snuff Box

When the thumb is fully extend, tenods of the extensor pollicis longus and brevis, along with the abductor pollicis longus tendon
Location: just distal to the wrist.
Contains a portion of the radial artery, deep to these three tendons

18

Extensor Indicis

Location: Attaches tot he proximal phalanx of the index finger
Function: Serving to straighten the metacarpo-phalangeal joint and assis the extensor digitorum communis tendon to this finger.

19

Small Interossei Muscles

Seven (Mean btwn the bones) in the palm.
Location: Extend from the metacarpal bones to the proximal phalanges
Function: Are in two groups, dorsal and palmar

20

PAD

Palmar interossei adduct the fingers

21

DAB

Doral Interossei abduct the fingers relative to the midline of the hand

22

Dorsal Interossei Muscles

Location: Extend to the index, middle and ring fingers, each arsises as two heads from adjacent sides of the metacarpal bones
Function:

23

First dorsal interosseous

Location: Large muscle, inserting into the proximal phalanx of the index finger along the radial side
Function:

24

Extensor Hood

Posterior side of the hand surrounding the tendons to the phalanges.
