Describe the factor that aids in determining distance using the retinal image: known size of objects
The nearer an object is to the observer, the larger its retinal image. By experience, the brain learns to estimate the distance of familiar objects by the size of their retinal image
Describe the factor that aids in determining distance using the retinal image: increasing or decreasing size of objects
If the retinal image of an object increases in size, the object is moving closer to the observer. If the retinal image decreases, the object is moving further away. If the retinal image is constant, the object is at a fixed distance
Describe the factor that aids in determining distance using the retinal image: terrestrial association
Comparison of one object, such as an airfield with another object of known size, such as a helicopter helps in determining the relative size and aparent distance of the object from the observer
Describe the factor that aids in determining distance using the retinal image: overlapping contours and interposition of objects
When objects overlap, the overlaped object is further away. For example, an object partially concealed by another object is behind the object concealing it
What is the warning in the dash 10 associated with the position lights
When operating a night or under nvg conditions, light reflecting from the left position light onto the main rotor blade and left door window May induce spatial disorientation
What is air glow and how much of total illumination does it provide on a moonless night
On a moonless night about 40% of the illumination is provided by emissions from atoms and molecules in the upper atmosphere known as air glow
What are the minimum parking requirements for the helicopter? What additional task should be done if the aircraft is parked for extended periods of time?
The minimum requirements for parking are: rotor brake or Gus lock engaged and wheel brake set tail wheel locked and wheels properly chocked for extended periods of time. Engine inlet covers exhaust covers and pedo covers should be installed and stabiliters slew to 0° when required. The ignition system and the doors and window should be locked
What is the emergency equipment in the aircraft?
Fire detection system
Fire detector test panel
Fire extinguishing system
Fire extinguisher arming levers (T Handles)
Fire extinguisher control panel
Crash actuated system
And operated fire extinguishers
Crash axe
First aid kits
