why is Haiti Vulnerable to the impacts of natural hazards?

  • people in Haiti over 10x poorer than those in the Dominican Republic.
  • Gov. has less money to put toward hazard-safe infrastructure and housing
  • don’t have the money to rebuild after a hazard either
  • political instability between DR and Haiti
  • DR deported over 50000 Haitians — large population with little space, more casualties
