What is a citizen (not the dictionary definition)
A legal resident of a country who owes allegiance to that place and is entitled to full civil rights and liberties (Pay taxes, follow law go to school, jury duty)
What does the government give citizens?
Money and public services
What are the three types/ processes of becoming a citizen….explain
- If you are born in a different country but one parent is a legal U.S. citizen, you are a U.S. citizen too
- If you are at all born in the U.S. you are a U.S. citizen
- If you are an immigrant who passed the citizenship tests and and are a legal U.S. citizen now
What is it called when an immigrant becomes a citizen
Naturalized Citizen
What are the five requirements for naturalization
- Must be 18 years old
- Must live here for 5 years (sped up to three years if you marry a U.S citizen)
- Must speak limited English (Read and speak oath and be able to read basic books)
- Must have Good Moral Character
- Must pass a basic history and government test

Group or individual that try’s to control society to create order by making and enforcing public policies
What are examples of public policies
Taxes, laws, jury duty, public parks, schools and libraries, loans, healthcare (Medicare and Medicaid) the FDA and CDC
Define a Duty and give an example
Things that citizens have to do; taxes, jury duty, obey laws, care for their property
Define Responsibility and give an example
Something you should do; get a job, vote, join military (show patriotism)
What are the four characteristics of the state (Nation)

- Territory with boundaries

What are the names of the four theories of the origins of the state
- Force Theory
- Divine Right
- Social Contract
- Evolutionary
Explain Force Theory and compare what government it is most similar to today
Somebody used violence and control to take over. They were threatening to everyone in order to take control. It is most similar to a Doctatorship
Explain Divine Right and compare what government it is most similar to today
People believe that God gave someone the right to rule. It is most similar to a Monarchy
Explain Social Contract and compare what government it is most similar to today
The people came on an agreement on who should rule. This is most similar to a Democracy
Explain the Evolutionary Theory and compare what government it is most similar to today
Everything happened naturally and somehow someone took over. Any modern-day government could have started like this
