What do strict constructionists argue?
Congress should only be able to excersize (1) its expressed powers and (2) those implied powers absolutely necessary to carry out those expressed powers
What do Liberal Constructionists favor?
A liberal interpretation of the constitution, a broad interpretation of the expanded powers given to congress in order to meet changing times/ crisis
What are the two different ways that the constitution grants congress a number of specific powers
- EXPRESSED POWER
- IMPLIED POWERS
What are EXPRESSED POWERS
Powers granted to congress that are WRITTEN in the constitution
What are IMPLIED POWERS
Powers granted to congress that are NOT WRITTEDN in the constitution but are necessary for congress to properly do their job

Senators
How does a TRUSTEE vote
Votes the way they want
How does a DELEGATE vote
Votes on what Constituents want
How does a PARTISAN vote
Votes for their party
How does a POLITICO vote
They combine all three other methods
- Votes for what they want
- Votes for what constituents want
- Votes for their party
What is the job of legislatures
To make laws
What is the job of Committee members
Examine bills before they are voted on by the whole house
What is the job of the Representatives of constituents
They vote in ways that should please their constituents
What is the job of the Servants of constituents
Requests from voters need to be headed by congress to make themselves look good for re-election
What is the job of politicians
Do what needs to be done to get re-elected
