The Manhunt Flashcards
(14 cards)
Title of The Manhunt
Immediately suggests something negative.
Could suggest a literal search for a lost person or may suggest a more metaphorical hunt for the man who has been wounded by war, both physically and emotionally.
“After passionate nights and intimate days”
Return of the soldier, happy to see eachother again. First representation of love and intimacy is misleading.
“The frozen river which ran through his face”
Compares his scars to a frozen river: coldness, dangerous and impenetrable.
It is a constant reminder of his physical damage
“feel the hurt if his grazed heart”
Damaged in an extreme way, even mentally
“the foetus of metal beneath his chest”
Disturbing and violent imagery of the bullet growing inside of him and will affect him for the rest of their lives.
“a sweating, unexploded mine buried deep in his mind”
A weapon used in war, suggesting that he has become a weapon of war and has lost his humanity and essence. Emphasises the after effects of war.
Could explode at any moment, causing both him and his wife pain.
Structure of The Manhunt
Structured in a list of things that she is supposedly trying to heal, emphasising the long process
