John keats context
He is classified as a romantic poet, meaning by that he appreciated the power and beauty of nature. He was dying when he wrote the poem.
“seasons of mist and mellow fruitfulness!”
exclamation emphasises the love he holds for this rural ideal, which is untouched by industrialisation
“close bosom-friend of the maturing sun”
personifies the sun as an older, wiser character. ‘maturing’ shows how time is passing.
“conspiring with him how to load and bless”
whispering about the rich gifts they can bestow upon earth
“and fill all fruit with ripeness to the core”
Autumn is the best season and represents the peak time of life
“sitting carelessly on a granary floor”
Autumn is not currently working, and the use of ‘careless’ implies that it is effortless

Implies that autumn is intoxicating and overwhelmingly beautiful

Autumn has time to observe the changes she made and the difference it has had to nature. Also shows the final fruits of autumn.

due to the changes autumn made, spring is now forgotten. Implies power of autumn and nature needs to be reassured that it is a season that should be admired.

Suggests that Keats is ready for death and to ‘move on’.
