The nervous system Flashcards
(52 cards)
What is multiple sclerosis?
A autoimmune disease that attack the brain and spinal cord.
How much glucose does the brain need?
20%
What is the two structure of the CNS?
The brain and spinal cord.
What is the two structure of the PNS?
The spinal nerves and the cranial tract.
What are tract?
Tract are nerves that comes directly from the brain.
What is the neurons job?
Conduct electrical impulse to send a message.
What is the Glia’s job?
Support, protect, or insulate the neurons.
What are the four glia from the CNS
Astrocytes, Microglia, oligodendrocytes, and ependymal cells.
What’s the oligodendrocytes job?
It form the myelin on the CNS neurons.
What are the two glia for the PNS
Satellite cells and Schwann cells.
What does the Schwann cells do?
It form the myelin on the PNS neurons.
What’s neurolemma?
It help regenerate the damaged neurons on the PNS only.
What are the two branch of the motor neurons?
The somatic nervous system and the autonomic nervous system.
What are the two branch of the autonomic nervous system?
The sympathetic nervous system and the parasympathetic nervous system.
Which one control the rest and digest?
The parasympathetic nervous system.
What does the sensory neurons do?
They receives a stimuli and send information to the brain and spinal cord.
What does the motor neurons do?
It send messages to the muscle or gland after receiving messages from the brain.
Which types of neurons does tetanus affect?
The motor neurons.
What is myelin?
A white fatty substance that act as insulator
What is the name of the space between the myelin?
The nodes of Ranvier.
What are the reasons to the symptoms of multiple sclerosis?
The loss of myelin on the CNS neurons, replaced by plaque. The nerve conduction is impaired.
What is the concept of neuroplasticity?
The study of the brain to reroute itself so new connections are made.
What is the action potential?
The electrical message that start from a neurons.
What is the name of the synapse “clean up crew”?
The reuptakes.
