the respirometer Flashcards
(8 cards)
What is a respirometer?
A device used to measure the rate of respiration of a living organism by measuring its uptake of oxygen or release of carbon dioxide.
Why is there potassium hydroxide solution?
To absorb the carbon dioxide.
What will happen to the volume inside the respirometer?
It decreases.
Which direction will the bubble move?
To the left.
What does this mean about the movement of coloured dye?
It is due to the absorption of oxygen.
What is oxygen consumption expressed as?
A rate- volume per time.
How can a respirometer be used to calculate carbon dioxide production?
Set it up the same way but without potassium hydroxide.
What will the difference in movement be due to?
The production of CO2.
