19
Q

The one group that is saved from this ummah will be more than the groups that are saved from the Jews and Christians

20
Q

What are the two types of Ayaat in the Quran

A

Muhkamaat: ayaat that have only one clear way of explaining

Mutashabihat: ayaat that have more than one possible interpretation where those interpretations are opposite to each other and cannot be reconciled

21
Q

According to Ibn Taymiyyah, what distinguishes Ahlul Sunnah from other groups?

A

Ahlus- Sunnah are the only ones who are dedicated to the Qur’ān, Sunnah and Ijmā’ Hence, they are called Ahl as-sunnah wa l jamā‘ah. The other groups however go against the text of the Quran or do not accept the sunnah or what the companions were upon/agreed upo

22
Q

What are two types of Mutashabihat

A

Mutashabihat Mutlaq: the Mutashabih which no one knows the interpretation except Allah – like the huruf ul-muqatat (e.g Alif, Laam, Meem)

Mutashabihat Nisbi: a Mutashābih that is not clear for some people but for others it is clear. Eg the ayāt that are twisted by the deviant groups to justify their beliefs.

23
Q

How does blindly following a madhab without considering clear proofs lead to bid’ah?

A

One can fall into bid’ah in this issue if they know that the truth is not with their madhhab on this issue but still persist, or they become extreme in taking only from one Imām such as Imām Abū Ḥanīfa or Imām Mālik and disregards the āyāt and aḥadīth.

24
Q

Why did the early scholars refer to the people of bid’ah as “the people of desires”

A

According to Ibn Taymiyyah, the Salaf used to call the people of Bid‛ah ‘people of desires’ because they are upon misguidance, and misguidance is something that comes about by necessity when you follow your desires
