Q

Why is there lots of oil in the middle east

A

It used to be a sea, so there was lots of organic material.
It has the right type of rocks that can trap oil underground (called “reservoir rocks”).
Tectonic plate movement helped create spaces where oil could collect.

Q

What are the 5 main reasons for conflict in the middle east? - Boarders.

A

Many tensions occur due to regional borders that were first created by Britain and France when they tried to colonise the region.
Many of the borders did not represent
the groups who lived in them. As a
result some groups have been split up,
such as the Kurd’s as they have been
divided across 4 different states.

Q

What are the 5 main reasons for conflict in the middle east? - The Arab Spring.

A

In 2011, there was a wave of protests and uprisings in the Middle East and
North Africa. It started in Tunisia, where people
protested against unfair government rules, and quickly spread to countries like Egypt, Libya, Syria, and Yemen. Some leaders were removed, but in other places, it led to wars and
ongoing problems. The wars in Yemen
and Syria are as a result of these protests.

Q

What are the 5 main reasons for conflict in the middle East? - oil

A

Oil has caused conflict in the Middle East because it is a valuable resource that many
countries want control over. Countries with a lot of oil, like Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Iran, became very rich. Other countries sometimes try to influence them to get access to their oil.
Some wars in the Middle East have been linked to oil, like the Iraq-Kuwait War (1990-
1991), where Iraq invaded Kuwait to take its oil fields.

Q

What are the 5 main reasons for conflict in the middle East? - Religion.

A

Religious Extremism – Groups e.g ISIS have used religion to justify violence, which has led to wars in places like Syria and Iraq.

Laws and Freedom – Some Middle Eastern governments have very strict religious laws. This can cause protests when people want more freedom.

The Israeli-Palestinian Conflict – Jews, Muslims, and Christians all see Jerusalem as a holy city, and there have been many fights over who should control it.

Q

What are the 5 main reasons for conflict in the Middle east? - iraq war

A

After the Iraq War in 2003, the balance of power in the region changed. Iraq was led by Saddam Hussein, a Sunni, even though most people in the country were Shia. When he was removed from power, Shia Muslims took control of the government. Now both Iraq and Iran are strong Shia countries. This increased tensions with Saudi Arabia, a Sunni country, as they all compete for power in the region.
