The Journey/Travelers Room
Two spice route chef’s were sent on a 100 day journey through all 29 states of India to collect stories, experiences, and age old recipes Musaafer translates to “a traveler”
Traveler statue created by an award winning sculptor. He was seen blocking a highway in Rajasthan for a herd of sheep to pass. Inspiration was found from him to create this experience called Musaafer. The true photo of our traveler can be found at the beginning of our Instagram page.
16-foot columns made from teakwood bring inspiration from ancient marketplaces. Traditionally the light fixtures were torches.
Mosaic tile found in the walkway under the arches is very common in the homes in India
- Our travelers table is one cut from a large tree. (Acacia Wood)
Installation above pastry kitchen shows time before dishwashers where kitchen utensils were dried and stored above sinks.
Dhokra wall features intricate art (found in Eastern India) surrounded by
Indian fabrics, and lattice patterns also used as storage. Dhokra is an art form using metal with a wax casting technique to make figurines. These panels show ancient everyday life.
Tables near Dhokra wall are made from real mother of pearl

Shadow Room
basis of design taken from henna, a paste made of herbs traditionally used to decorate women’s hands and feet for weddings or special ceremonies.
-Custom made lanterns to cast shadows of henna designs
This style of chair (Muda) are used in villages of India. These are custom made for the restaurant.
This room is kept quiet and elegant to keep the focus on food and the experience.

Diwan
refers to a type of sofa. These were in areas considered a formal seating room to entertain, lounge, or discuss important topics.
Great for family and friends to gather and share our plates family style as we recommend.
63 is a photo taken while on the journey. This is of a chhatri (umbrella) on Gadisar lake in Jaisalmer. This is a place where kings would relax in the evenings. It is framed to be like you are looking out the window of a palace

Aangan
means Courtyard (we have an illusion of a 2nd floor) to represent the “Parda
System” Back in the day the women couldnt mingle with men, so they would stay on the 2nd floor of the courtyard looking down onto the men through the holes in the lattice work.
-Typically the center of the house which was kept light and airy with energy.
Usage of architectural design of Vastu, center of house allows for free flow of positive energy.
Notice the black and white marble in a mosaic pattern to represent the center of the room.
Hand blown glass meant to represent the stars in the night sky.
Orange Lights moving on the walls to represent the sunset or “golden hour” as if you are in the courtyard during sunset.
- DJ booth on the second floor, live DJ every Friday & Saturday night.

Bar
metal panels made from artisans who used a specially designed mallet and hammer to create the texture and designs.
The elephants’ cloth has the parent company’s logo (The Spice Route Co.) which resembles a bunch of cinnamon sticks when held in the hand.

Focal point are the day beds. They highlight the concept of mid day naps that have be prevalent in India since ancient times. When the British ruled they introduced the concept of sofa and chair then sitting up right became common.
-Lanterns are hand painted by 1 artist showing different aspects of Indian culture. Jewelry, intricate rugs, Lotus flower (flower of India) with the goddess of wealth (Lakshmi), Tree of Life, & Textiles.

Sheesh mahal
- means palace of mirrors. Inspired by palaces of India
These rooms were designed by kings and used mainly for entertainment and viewing dances. Dancers would be reflected through many pieces of mirrors giving an illusion
- Ours holds over 200,000 pieces of hand cut mirrors.
We sent dimensions to architects in India. It was built by panel and sent over to be rebuilt in the restaurant.

Wine room
-take inspiration from history of carrier pigeons. Before post mail, kings would communicate this way.
Pigeons have a great ability to go 1 route and come back.
On the journey in Rajasthan, there was a palace in Udaipur dedicated to just pigeons. Cages were at the top and the coupes at the bottom.

Lobby
Emphasis on the narrow hallway to make the entrance to the dining rooms seem grander
-Our lobby is inspired by Sabyasachi Mukerjee, a famous Indian fashion designer. Inspiration comes from the design of his own stores. You will notice same features such as warm and rich colors, woods, carpets, paintings, lamps, and plates.
Ours features his limited edition wallpaper.
- Lamps are unique and are actually custom by a designer in Delhi.
-Big portrait is Maharani (Queen) Chimnabai. A queen of baroda around the 1920’s. She fought for womens rights and ended child marriage for a period of time. Became the first president of All India Womens Conference in 1927.
