tracheal collapse, mass or obstruction
increased intracranial pressure
Size of needle used in tracheostomy
(14-16G)
Where is the incision made for tracheostomy
(between 3rd and 4th tracheal ring)
Cleaning tracheostomy tube of secretions
every 15-30 minutes.
Humidification of tracheostomy tube
Isotonic saline 3-5ml every hour
The stoma site must be monitored
every 4 hours
Nursing Care: checking RR, effort and lung auscultation
every 2 hours
COMPLICATIONS
obstruction
dislodgement,
occlusion of the tube
vagal response,
stimulation of gag reflex
infection.
