Wheeled ambulance stretcher
most common stretcher, used to transport on wheels, not carried up and down or used for significant distance
backboards
also known as spine boards, trauma boards, longboards
*used to restrict spine in supine position w/ potential neck and spine injuries
*used for patients in awkward areas
Stair Chair
lightweight foldable chairs, can be used to take patients downstairs often and can be rolled
Emergency Move
when there is potential danger to you or patient - use to move patient to safe place
Urgent Move
patient w/ altered level of consciousness, inadequate ventilation or shock, severe weather.
Rapid extrication technique conditions
*unsafe scene
*explosives/hazards present
*fire danger
*patient cannot be assessed in vehicle
*patient has a life threatening condition
*patient blocks access to another patient.
direct ground lift
use w/ no suspected spine/neck injury w patient in supine
extremity lift
use w/ no suspected spine/neck injury often in narrow space
Scoop stretcher
two halves are fused together underneath suspected injured patient.
Bariatric stretchers
wider surface area for patient, similar to wheeled stretcher, often have optional features
Flexible stretcher
forms a rigid structure around patient and can be used when patient needs to be belayed or rappelled by ropes
KED
used to immobilize patient in sitting position until they can be moved to backboard
Vacuum Mattress
air is removed around patient in stretcher causing it to mold around them
Basket stretchers
used to carry patients across uneven terrain inaccessible to ambulance
Neonatal isolette
warm area isolated for neonate to be placed
