Explain the proces of Cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT)

A

Begins with an assessment in which patient and therapist work togethere to clarify patients problems. They identify goals for the therpay and put togethere a plan to achieve them. CBT involves working to change negative and irrational thoughts. Therapist may set homework such as record when patient enjoyes an event or when people were nice to them.

Explain Rational emotive behaviour therpay (REBT)

A

Central technique of REBT is to identify examples of unfairness to patient and challenge them as an irrational beleif. Therapy involves arguements. Empirical arguements involve disputing whether there is actual evidence to support the negative belief. Logical arguments attempt to show that the beliefs dont make sense.

What is a weakness of CBT

A

Therapy can take 16 to 20 sessions with a trained therapist, it is an expensive treatment option.

What is a weakness of CBT and REBT

A

Both overly focus on the presnt and how to reconstructe how the client thinks about the current situation cognitively. Clients may want to discuss severe trauma in their past.

What did March (2007) do which supports the effectivness of CBT

A

Randomly assigned 327 patients to one of three groups, CBT, Drug therpay and third was given a combination of CBT and ddrug therapy. After 36 weeks, drug therapy had an effectivenss rate of 81% same as CBT. Drug therpay and CBT are as effective as eachother. Best results cam from third group who had the combination of drug therapy and CBT.
